Internal Brief

Joining the Designas CAD Team

Designas CAD is a specialist SolidWorks design studio serving furniture manufacturers, joiners, architects, and product companies worldwide. We produce precision technical drawings and 3D models that go directly to workshops and CNC machines.

If you're joining us as a designer, contractor, or freelancer — or if you've completed one of our courses and are exploring opportunities — this page explains how we work, what we expect, and what standards we follow.

How We Work

We operate as a fully remote team, delivering projects to clients across multiple time zones. Communication is asynchronous by default — we use project briefs, structured file handoffs, and clear written feedback rather than constant calls. Every project has a written brief with dimensions, materials, hardware, and reference images before modelling begins.

Our Standards

Consistency matters. When a client receives files from Designas CAD, the quality, naming, organisation, and presentation should be identical regardless of which designer produced the work. These are our non-negotiable standards:

File Naming Convention

All project files follow this pattern: ProjectCode_ComponentName_vX.sldprt

For example: KITCHEN01_BaseCabinet_600_v2.sldprt

All project files follow this pattern. No exceptions.

Folder Structure

Every project uses the same folder hierarchy:

Project_Name / Parts / Assemblies / Drawings / References / Exports

SolidWorks Templates

We use custom Part, Assembly, and Drawing templates with MMGS units (millimetres, grams, seconds), Designas CAD title blocks, and pre-configured dimension styles. Templates are provided during onboarding.

Training & Onboarding

New team members complete the Designas CAD onboarding programme:

  1. Standards Review — Read this page and the internal standards documentation.
  2. Template Setup — Install Designas CAD SolidWorks templates on your machine.
  3. Trial Project — Complete a small paid trial project to Designas CAD standards.
  4. Review & Feedback — Your trial project is reviewed by a senior designer.
  5. First Client Project — You're assigned a real client project with support.

Course graduates who scored Distinction on their capstone project may be invited to skip steps 1–2 and proceed directly to the trial project.
