Concept to manufacture
Manufacture-ready 3D models, GD&T engineering drawings and assembly documentation — from a sketch to a factory-ready pack.
Get Your Project QuotedEngineered to make — wall thicknesses, clearance fits and tolerances resolved before a single tool is cut.
DesignAs CAD provides professional product design and engineering services for manufacturers, inventors, and product companies worldwide. Using SolidWorks, we take your concept — a detailed brief, a hand sketch, or a rough idea — and produce manufacture-ready 3D models, engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, assembly documentation, and technical packs that a factory or manufacturer can build from. Our product design service bridges the gap between an idea and a physical product. We work across furniture, consumer goods, industrial products, bespoke components, and mechanical assemblies.
From Concept to Manufacture — What Product CAD Design Actually Involves
Product CAD design is not just drawing what something looks like. It's engineering how something works — and works consistently, when made by a third party, from materials with real tolerances, assembled by people following a drawing.
The gap between a good idea and a manufacturable product is where most product development projects fail. A 3D render looks convincing but tells the factory nothing about wall thicknesses, thread specifications, clearance fits, or assembly sequence. SolidWorks engineering drawings provide all of this: GD&T that communicates which dimensions are critical, surface finish requirements, material specifications, and assembly instructions.
Over 65% of UK and US design and manufacturing firms now outsource CAD design rather than maintaining in-house teams. The economics are clear: a dedicated CAD designer is a full-time salary plus workstation plus software licensing. A project-based service scales with your need.
Types of Products We Design
Consumer Goods & Home Products
Domestic appliances, kitchen accessories, storage products, lighting components, and home furnishings. We design for injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and assembly combinations.
Bespoke Components & Parts
One-off and short-run parts: mechanical components, mounting brackets, enclosures, custom fittings, and structural connections. Designed for the manufacturing process and tolerance requirements of the application.
Furniture Components & Hardware
Structural frames, proprietary connecting hardware, custom extrusions, and bespoke furniture fittings. CNC machining, laser cutting, and tube bending. Interface dimensions designed to work precisely with standard sheet materials and hardware.
Industrial & Commercial Products
Equipment housings, machine components, industrial fittings, and commercial fixtures. We work with engineering tolerances and manufacturing process constraints to ensure parts can be made as designed.
Product Ranges & Configurable Products
Parametric SolidWorks models that can be reconfigured efficiently for variants without redrawing. Ideal for product families where size, configuration, or specification varies across a range.

What's Included
- 3D SolidWorks model — fully parametric 3D model. Every surface, hole, thread, and feature to specified dimensions. The master model from which all drawings and manufacturing files are derived.
- 2D engineering drawings — detail drawings for every part: all dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, material specifications. GD&T applied to critical dimensions. BS 8888 / ISO standards.
- Assembly drawings — how parts fit together, sequence of assembly, fasteners. Exploded views and part numbers. Everything a workshop needs to assemble a product correctly the first time.
- Bill of materials (BOM) — every part and bought-in component with part numbers, descriptions, materials, quantities. Ready for procurement or factory production planning.
- Manufacturing files — STEP for CNC, DXF for laser cutting, STL for 3D printing, DWG for subcontractors. All derived directly from the master 3D model — no redrawing, no reinterpretation.
Toleranced to manufacture.
How It Works
Send your brief
What the product needs to do, how it will be manufactured, materials, constraints and any standards — or just a sketch or an idea. We work from minimal information and quote within 48 hours, project-fee or time-based.
We model & draw
Your product built in SolidWorks: parametric 3D model, 2D engineering drawings, assembly drawings, GD&T and a DFM review. Accuracy guaranteed — our errors corrected at no cost. All changes quoted upfront.
You receive files
PDF drawing pack, AutoCAD-ready DWG/DXF, STEP, native SolidWorks files and rendered images — one organised package, ready for the factory or workshop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a detailed brief before contacting you?
No. We can help define the brief through discussion. The more you can describe what the product needs to do, the more accurate our quote will be — but we can start from a sketch or an idea.
Can you design for a specific manufacturing process?
Yes. Injection moulding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, 3D printing, casting — we design for the process you intend to use. If you're unsure, we can advise on the most appropriate process for the part geometry and volumes.
Can you work with existing parts or products?
Yes. We reverse-engineer from dimensions, photographs, or physical samples, and design new parts that interface with them. This is common when adding a new component to an existing product family or updating a part without a legacy CAD file.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. We sign a mutual NDA before receiving any confidential product information. All project files are treated as confidential and are not shared or retained beyond project completion without consent.
