Built to sit right — frame, foam and fabric specified together.

DesignAs CAD provides technical CAD design for bespoke soft furniture — sofas, armchairs, beds, ottomans, banquette seating, and custom upholstered pieces. We produce the frame drawings, foam and spring schedules, fabric cut plans, and cushion specifications that furniture manufacturers, upholsterers, and furniture designers need to build bespoke pieces accurately, consistently, and at scale. Bespoke soft furniture design requires a different discipline to hard furniture. The challenge is not just geometry but the interplay between the rigid frame, the flexible webbing and foam, and the fabric that wraps it all.

What Is Bespoke Soft Furniture CAD Design?

When a furniture designer or upholsterer creates a bespoke sofa, they're working across multiple materials and manufacturing processes simultaneously. The wood or steel frame must be structurally sound and precisely dimensioned for the upholstery to sit correctly. The spring or webbing system must be specified to achieve the right seat depth and softness. The foam must be cut to exact profiles. The fabric must be cut economically to minimise waste.

Each step requires a different type of drawing. A frame drawing shows dimensioned elevations and sections for every joint. A cushion schedule shows every cushion face, welt, back, and base in two dimensions. A foam schedule shows every foam section with its density and compression rating.

Without precise technical drawings, each of these steps is open to interpretation — and interpretation in a production environment means inconsistency. Two upholsterers working from the same rough sketch will produce two different pieces. Two upholsterers working from the same precise drawing pack will produce identical pieces. That consistency is what bespoke soft furniture CAD design delivers.

Send your brief

Concept sketches or references, dimensions, materials and construction method — or just a description. We work from minimal information and quote within 48 hours, project-fee or time-based.

02

We model & draw

Frame modelled in SolidWorks and reviewed first, then the upholstery pack — foam schedule, cushion patterns, fabric cut plan and notes. Accuracy guaranteed — our errors corrected at no cost. All changes quoted upfront.

03

You receive files

PDF, AutoCAD-ready DWG/DXF, STEP, SolidWorks native files and rendered images — one organised package, ready for the workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you design furniture from a concept sketch?

Yes. A concept sketch gives us proportions and style. We produce technically precise drawings from these, working collaboratively to verify dimensions.

Do you design for specific fabric widths?

Yes. Standard UK fabric widths are typically 140cm, but we work to any width. If you specify the fabric you're using, we'll orient and lay out all cushion pieces to fit that width economically.

Can you produce drawings for upholstery that needs to be reproduced consistently?

Yes. Production documentation includes complete pattern packs so a workshop can reproduce pieces consistently — whether the same piece is made once or a hundred times.

Do you design for UK Furniture Industry standards?

Yes. We're familiar with UK furniture flammability requirements under the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 and design for contract specification grades where required.
